These are some old mixing bowls that I have displayed on top of my kitchen cabinets.

They are 99.9% for looks, because the old ones aren't food safe anymore and the newer ones are well, dusty.
This green one is a McCoy bowl. I bought it for myself for my birthday a few years ago. I found it on eBay and was so excited when the bowl arrived. I washed it immediately and had it sitting on my breakfast bar waiting for it to dry. Out of the corner of my eye I saw my cat looking at it and then quickly stepping into it and trying to curl up and make a bed in it.
This bowl is probably 6" wide, so his butt didn't begin to fit in here. It tipped over, fell on the floor and broke into 5,000 pieces. I cried.

No Otis, I don't know what you were thinking either.

I glued as much of it together as I could, but there is still a hole in the back. That is what started me putting my bowls on the top of my kitchen cabinets. You can hide a lot of problems up there.

These are newer bowls made by Fioriware Pottery, but they have a vintage look to them.

This is also a Fioriware Pottery bowl. Fioriware Pottery is located in Southeastern Ohio which is where many of the more famous pottery makers were located - McCoy, Shawnee, Hull, Watt, Weller and Roseville among others.

These are newer bowls, but unmarked.

These next three bowls are older bowls, but I am unsure of their manufacturer.

I love the designs on these types of bowls.

Oh, and I almost forgot, I have one of these mixing bowls that is a McCoy. I use it a lot, so I don't put it on top of the cabinets.
It's part of a set that would have other different colored banded bowls with it. This is the only one of the set that I have though.

What do you like to collect? Do you use them or just look at them?
I am linking to Colorado Lady's Vintage Thingie Thursday.
I LOVE old mixing bowls Pam. Ironically I don't have any, but I love looking at them. Oh, Otis so glad to see you still alive, that would have been debatable, or at least a boot outdoors. Gonna look up the Fioriware, I don't know where it is. Thanks for the info and the tour Pam!
ReplyDeleteOtis was trying to nap of course! But I would have cried too Pam. I think you have seen some of my stuff: Delft, Fenton black onyx, vintage wooden bowls, vintage lamps, pottery, and oil paintings. That is a start to the list and a find at a yard sale may start a new collection on Saturday! hugs♥olive
ReplyDeleteI love your bowls. I'll bet you wanted to bean Otis for just a minute there. I love old bowls too and have a couple of real old timers. I used to display them but I don't really have the place in this house as we have very limited overhead cabinetry. Yours are great. I love that green one and the deep brown one a lot! Hugs- Diana
ReplyDeleteI love your mixing bowls Pam. I have a brown one, it's similar to your brown one, but more plain. It's very old, and I've not really looked for the maker, but since reading your post I will. I also have four or five vintage white milk glass mixing bowls I purchased 15 years ago and still use them all the time. They are the kind that go beneath the old time electric mixers. I collect all sorts of items too numerous to count, and most are used for looks.
ReplyDelete~*~*I LOVE Otis!! Great bowls too!! Hugs,Rachel ;)~*~
ReplyDeleteGreat reminder to put the broken things up high!!
ReplyDeleteOh Pam! As I was reading this, I thought....there is no way Otis could fit in that bowl. I guess like a lot of us, Otis just doesn't realize how big his bum is. ;o}
ReplyDeleteI love your bowl collection. I collect dust bunnies, mostly.
Actually, I used to collect Boyd's Bears. Jordan has asthma and I soon realized how much dust they collect. I sold many of them on eBay and have the rest packed up in a box.
This summer I bought a couple of teacup/saucers. I think I am going to slowly add to that collection. La
Nice collection of bowls, Pam! I have one like the one with the pink/blue that I use all the time...have had it for years. I have a huge yellowware bowl with white stripes that I use as my bread rising bowl, it will hold large 4 loaves.
ReplyDeletePam..I love your collection of bowls! So beauitful and yet utilitarian! Too bad about that McCoy, but I do like it all glued up for display. Poor kitty, lol.
ReplyDeleteBlessings!
Gail
What a fabulous post, Pam! just between you & me i've got a bowl collecting fetish too lol!! oh how devastated you must have been when Otis broke that gorgeous bowl :(( i think i'll pop my vintage ones high out of reach on top of my kitchen cabints so that my two nosy kittys don't do what Otis did!! x
ReplyDeleteI have never seen such a collection of bowls. You have some real vintage in that group.
ReplyDeleteI love your bowls. Your cat is adorable. I got a new cat last month and she is into and on everything. It doesn't look like she is ever going to behave.
ReplyDeleteGreat bowls! I love bowls, too, I have the one like your white one and the brown. My white one says USA on the bottom. McCoy did make some products with USA. If you'd like to see my bowl collection, I posted about them on Oct. 3. I am a first time visitor and really enjoy your blog. I going to become a follower!
ReplyDeleteOh, I was just sick when you said that wonderful bowl was broken into so many pieces. It does look nice on the shelf, but I can just imagine your dismay when that happened! So sorry. I love your collection, the bowls are wonderful. Happy VTT!
ReplyDeleteAll of your bowls are beautiful. I posted the winner of the truck contest my sisters and I had back in September. I also am having a give away for my 100th blog in just a few days so hope you will be able to come by for a visit. Debbie
ReplyDeleteLove your collection.
ReplyDeleteI love your bowl collection and the neat way you have them display...out of reach! A collection to be cherished.
ReplyDeleteI love the old bowls, but I actually use mine as serving dishes. Your green bowl is very pretty.
ReplyDeleteAnn
These bowls are wonderful even if you can't use some of them and they look so good the way you have them displayed. Otis looks like he's telling you he's sorry...what a cute kitty!
ReplyDeleteI have some that I don't use because the just collect dust, but they sure look good.
What a great collection! I love your bowls. Even the broken one :-(

That is a wonderful collection, and they are all gorgeous. My pets love to ruin things, too. Good that you have a safe display for them.
ReplyDeleteA couple of years ago I started seeing white mixer bowls (from old stand mixers) in the thrift shops I frequent, so I now have a collection of them. Why? I have no idea! I certainly don't need mixer-less mixer bowls, but I keep looking for different ones.
ReplyDeleteOh Otis, you naughty naughty boy! Sigh. So glad you didn't banish him forever. ;-) Glue is a wonderful thing!
ReplyDeleteYour bowl collection is lovely! The blue band on the McCoy pot makes it so pretty! I love all your colors, creams, browns, blues and greens. I can't pick a favorite! Hope you are able to figure out the maker on all of them.
I love your bowls. I have two old McCoys that are cream with brown stripes and in mint condition, a brown beehive bowl, a cream one from my husband's aunt and a huge old English bowl. So I really enjoyed seeing your bowls and finding someone else that is as enamored by them as I am.
