It works, but I'm not seeing the huge benefit of growing a plant upside down.
I think it would have grown just as well in a pot growing the way God intended it to grow.
But the up side (pun intended) is that we have home grown tomatoes.
And since I have a blog, I had to take a photo of the salad my husband made. It's sort of part of the deal. Chasing the husband around trying to take photos before he digs into his lunch.
Of course, my husband had to make his salad in his normal salad bowl.
Also known as a 2 quart stainless steel mixing bowl.
What can I say. We're fancy around here.

That's the best I have seen of those tomatoes. I think you did well.
ReplyDeleteI think you're right! However, the tomatoes do look yummy!
ReplyDeleteWell you did better than i did with mine last year. Ours was a miserable fail. Yummy looking tomatoes.
ReplyDeleteI had no idea a topsy turvy could do that! I'll try it next year.
ReplyDeleteFab photos!!!!!!! Those upside down tomatoes look great!
ReplyDeleteAt least you have a hubby who eats healthy!!
Your maters look great!
ReplyDeleteThe salad looks yummy.
That would be the size salad bowl Ken would use!!!!

Those tomatoes look so perfect. I use a pretty big bowl when I have salad too :)
ReplyDeleteYummy tomatoes.

Great photos! However I agree... My Topsy Turvy was a huge disappointment... The only advantage I see is if you have a small garden... even then mine didn't produce like I would have liked.

Yours is the most successful one I've seen-enjoy:@)
ReplyDeleteI don't think it looks ugly at all. In fact, I think it's really pretty. I love seeing things grow. We live in a condo, so we can't grow anything, but I like to read about other people's garden adventures.

I laughed out loud at that "salad bowl"! Isn't it funny how many of us seem to have a favorite dish or cup? For years I would only use one cereal bowl. At least your tomato plants haven't fallen to the 100+ heat. I have fried green tomatoes on the vine!
ReplyDeleteI think they look healthy and and well filled out. Every thing here is getting burned up. Our volunteer grape tomatoes are doing well and we continue to marvel at that.
ReplyDeleteYour topsy turvy is doing great. I could never grow hardly any tomatoes out of mine!
ReplyDeleteI just laughed outloud in the office (oops) reading your blog post. I used the exact same stainless steel bowl for our dinner salad last night too. Your tomatoes look very very happy.
ReplyDeleteI know that growing tomatoes like that keeps them from falling over and rotting on the ground and keeps the animals out of them. Not to mention staking.
ReplyDeleteYours look great! you must have started with good soil and then fertilized on schedule. Watering and good sun help too ;)

ps My husband might just as easily make the salad in the stewpot...
2 Things:
ReplyDelete*My husband eats cereal out of those bowls.
*Don't salads taste better when someone else takes the time to chop and prepare it?? :)
Great photo of the tomatoes in the clear casing!
LUV YOUR BLOG, STOP BY & SAY HI, WE HAVE A LOT IN COMMON :) GIO
ReplyDeleteGlad to see those Topsy Turvy things actually work. My brother bought my mom one, but we never used it because it seemed kind of flimsy. He got the cheap one without the stand though. If you had someplace to hang it, I could see using it, but we didn't.
ReplyDeleteLooks like you are doing something right to have so many tomatoes!
Your tomatoes look wonderful! I bet they taste great. too!
ReplyDeleteFinally.... I can make a darn comment.
ReplyDeleteI installed Firefox.
Anyway, WOW! I always wondered if they worked.
Love the old typewriter. Now you can write some letters. Hey, I needed that. Maybe my comments would of gotten to you sooner. LOL!
Missed you Pam!

Those tomatoes look so yummy. I know my family is always wondering why I keep taking pictures of the darndest things lol!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for stopping by and for your great comment. That is a bread box in the photo. My daughter was the one who painted it. I am going to do that area in my next post. I hope you will be by again soon.

I think the TT are just some marketing person's idea to separate people from their money. I have had great success growing tomatoes in a large pot and staking isn't that hard, just buy one of those cages. Really, sometimes we all have to think about what we see in infomercials, I enjoy them because most of the items are so, so wacky. I do have to say, your plant is about the healthiest I have ever seen so I bet you could grow some tomatoes next year, as you said, the way God intended.
ReplyDeleteI haven't tried the TT tomatoes, but Mom is doing great with her right side up ones, so I'll stick with her way! Enjoy the salads!!!
ReplyDeleteThose are beautiful tomatoes! You've just inspired me to have a salad for lunch today! :)

It's a Big Salad: It's a salad, only bigger, with lots of stuff in it. Elaine (Seinfeld)
ReplyDeleteI've been wondering about growing one this way. Seems a plant should be grown the way it was intended but the tomatoes look great either way!

I've wondered about those things. Just be happy it's salad instead of ice cream in that bowl :) My hubby's a good "salad guy" too. Chat soon, Laurel
ReplyDeleteYour plant looks really healthy and productive, Pam! We eat salad out of fancy bowls like that sometimes, too LOL!
