Squirrel!

I realized the other day that I love to show you what I bought at the thrift stores and yard sales, but rarely show you where it ended up going in the house. And decorating with the thrifty, vintage items is half the fun of buying them.

So, this is my fall entranceway table vignette decorated with a few of my thrifty finds.

I fell in love with this framed print as soon as I saw it. And I really fell in love with it when I saw the $4.50 price tag. Despite numerous trips to the thrift stores, this was my one and only recent thrifty find and it was found at the antique mall.

I liked the detail of the frame. I doubt that it was originally painted cream and green, but it works for me in a chippy sort of way.

This is my silver plated Farm Bureau bowl that I bought last year and told you about HERE. I have the bowl sitting on a pile of thrifted hard cover books that are great to have around to add height to vignettes. I bought them for 50 cents each in February.

It is filled with some fall fruit and leaves that I bought last year. I think I bought them at Wally World, so they would count as a thrifty find. Everything at Walmart is thrifty, you know. Except for their meat, which is ridiculously overpriced and looks like it was cut with a chainsaw.

Here's my squirrel that I bought recently at a gift store in Dublin, Ohio. I loved how he's casually sitting on his haunches offering up his treats to you. He should probably be offering candy corn or Snickers bars, but you'll have to make do with pine cones.

He is neither thrifty nor vintage, but he's cute, so he is rounding out the table.

For some reason, this fall has been a slow time for thrifting here in Ohio. The yard sales have all but dried up because of the weather and the thrift stores seem to be short of stock on the shelves. How has your thrifting been going where you live?

  2. I love seeing all the squirrels and acorns this year. Very pretty. When you titled your post squirrel, I immediately thought of that dog in one of the Disney movies....I can't think which one now...but I can hear him!!

  4. I love your table, that bowl is gorgeous and that squirrel is just too cute. There have been random yard sales around me here in PA but defiantly not like in the summer time and I haven't been finding too much at the Goodwills around here either. I have really been keeping my eye out for fall/halloween stuff since I can ALWAYS find Christmas stuff but I haven't been very lucky. I did find a wooden pedistol bowl too that I am excited to paint!

  6. The thrift has been skimpy around here too! I thought it was just me...
I do love your treasures and the whole table. In fact, I have a wonderful hunt print that I haven't been using because I don't like the frame and matting. You have inspired me to try to lighten mine up!

  9. What great finds and you've arranged it all so beautifully too! I haven't been out shopping much. I did buy a chicken feeder yesterday. Just you wait and see what I'm going to do with that. I feel very clever :)

  10. Great finds, and the Farm Bureau trophy bowl is my favourite. I can see you using it in many tablescapes and it would look lovely filled with pinecones or Christmas balls. Thanks for the kind comment on my farmer's market sign. The sharp pencil works, you just need to be in good light to see the indents. On lighter paint colours I cover the back of the paper with pencil and then outline the letters on the front (doesn't work well on dark colours.) I really should by some transfer paper one of these days.

  13. I love your vignette. The print is a handsome addition. You know I'm all about squirrels too. I just packed up mine to make more room for Halloween, but I think they'll be coming back out November 1st. Your special package was all wrapped up last night and will be in the mail today.

  14. I haven't been out thrifting for ages, Pam! Not since before the backyard project... But I've been to a few shows, so I guess that counts when I've gotten good deals, right?
I love your new squirrel! I've had so many goodies lately that pine cones look appetizing. Can I say chocolate overload? Yikes, who woulda thought...
Maybe I'll see a glimpse of you over the weekend at Linda's sale. Everyone seems to be busy right now and getting together probably won't occur until spring.
Keep thrifting. Your entry looks so nice w/your new pic and your bowl. :-)

  17. He is so cute Pam. All of your photos are really crisp and beautiful. You take great photos.

Sorry I'm just now getting back to you on the paint color in our bathroom. It's called "Misty" and it's by Martha Stewart. I bought it at Sherwin Williams about five yeas ago. I'm not sure if it's still available. It's a soothing color.

    Have a good one!

  18. I love your vignette. It is perfect. What a great picture, I am all about Hunt Scenes lately and equestrian. Your silve bowl is a great piece too. I love the use of the books and that squirell is just adorable. He has such a cute little face and so sweet to offer up his bounty. Thanks for joining TTT. Hugs, Marty

  20. You know what? Our thrift stores have upped the prices on frames. It is ridiculaous to walk in and frames are $30.....and so are the china cabinets. Really?? The same price?? I have taken a break from the shops and just focused on curbside shopping for awhile. And Ebay classifieds. Love your squirrel! Don't you have a family of them now? andrea@townandprairie

  21. Your comment about Walmart meat made me giggle. The chain saw they use at our Walmart is dull 'cause it looks like they tear it.

I remember that bowl! I love your little squirrel.

Hope you are enjoying this beautiful weather.
