The Joy Of A Trimmed Down Christmas

I know I've said before that I was doing a more scaled back Christmas and I really am. I did not put up 1/2 of my normal Christmas decor. I did not put up the dining room tree with all my Grandmother's vintage ornaments on it. It didn't decorate my banister with oodles of greenery. I didn't decorate my basement family room at all. I tried to just plop down some Christmas items in among my normal decor, instead of totally redecorating the entire house.

Looking around my house I have a sense of calm now, rather than the nagging thought in the back of my mind telling me that "Pam, you have to put all this crap away after Christmas!!!". I think I can easily put this stuff away, with the exception of the tree, within a few hours.

What was that? Oh, that was a sigh of relief that you just heard coming from central Ohio.

So, here are some photos of my trimmed down Christmas trimmings.

  1. I trimmed down too this year! I share your same feelings. Even my husband commented that I didn't seem as stressed this year!

  3. Everything looks lovely! I, too, have simplified my decorating now that the girls are grown and have their own homes. I used to jokingly tell my mother that the older she gets, the smaller her tree is, and now I know why!

I forgot all about some vintage collanders I bought until I saw yours! Thanks for the reminder! And I've searched everywhere for those chunky candy canes with no luck. Maybe next year.

    Merry Christmas!!!! vickie

  4. I hear you. I hear you about toning it down. I'm already worried about putting it all away. My knee gave way and I can't walk, so it'll be a while. LOVE all your Vintage Santas. But I'm crazy about the old truck with a stash of bottle brush trees in the back. I want Santa to bring me one. LOL MERRY CHRISTMAS to you and your loved ones.

  10. I LOVE the idea of a scaled back CHRISTmas -- so much in fact, that we've done a scaled back CHRISTmas the last few years. When I put it all away this year, I plan to box up and take to Goodwill some of the excess. That will feel good :)

    Merry CHRISTmas!

  22. You might not believe me if you walked in my house, but I trimmed back too this year. I host a big family get together each year and I decorate all out for them. But this year, not so much, and I have already started taking some things down here and there. I store things in drawers and closets near where I decorate with them, so it's a bit easier to restore them. I'm dreading the tree break down, but other than that I'm cool.
    I love that Christmas plate!!
    Merry Christmas, Pam!

  26. Love the tree in the suitcase! For some reason, I have been in an extra festive mood this Christmas and put up alot of decorations, mostly vintage. I also did some Christmas crafts which I love. I just decided do what I want to do, not stress, and just have fun and mostly did. The house is a mess, but most importantly, I'm having fun. Everything is beautiful at your house - thanks for sharing and Merry Christmas!

I fear my eight grandkiddos would conspire to hang me from the lowest branch if I tried to 'scale' it down a notch or two yet. Shhhhh, don't tell 'em but they think I'm still a youngen too!!! Heeeheeheh!
