Patriotic Table

I changed out the decor in the huge lantern on my dining room table, so it now has a 4th of July vibe. When I first bought this, I thought it was too large for my table, but I have sort of grown to love it now. Or else it has shrunk over the last few months.

I put a vintage postcard

and some run of the mill flags (that were probably bought at Walmart) in the lantern. There's a candle in there too, but you can barely see it with the other stuff.

A grain sack that I bought at a garage sale for $5.00 is used as the table runner. It is a little more "rustic" than I would normally do for the dining room,

but it has red and blue stripes on it and says "American Malting Co., Detroit, Michigan", so it was just begging to be used for a patriotic table. I know I am committing a cardinal sin by using a Michigan item on a table located in the Buckeye state, but you'll have to forgive me.

Do you decorate your indoor rooms for the 4th of July? Or is pretty much of a one day outdoor holiday for you?

  1. It really looks nice Pam. I will put up a flag outside for the fourth, but that is all the fourth of July decorating I do. Love that you can change out your decorations in the lantern for other holidays too.

  2. I usually don't decorate for the 4th because I don't care for red. But I need to get over it! Your decorating looks great!

  3. Pam, the lantern is very July Fourth and I really like it. I have a July Fourth wreath that I actually made (shocking) somewhere. I may do a tablescape and make cupcakes with little pinwheels but the grandkiddos have got us terribly busy. xo, O

  5. I love how you decorated the lantern! I typically don't decorate inside for the 4th, but we will have a bunting and some flags in our front yard. You can see our city's fireworks from our house so it's kind of a big deal in our neighborhood.

  7. Looks great! I don't decorate for the 4th. Fly the flag -- that's about it for lazy me.

  12. Love the lantern. It is big but that is the best part. I am taking the week off after our family reunion and will start to pull things together outside for the 4th over the next week. It falls in the middle of the week so everyone has to work. The pits I say. But still trying to celebrate with BBQ's and gatherings around the fire pit. Have a great week.

  14. I love your lantern and am swooning over that grain sack -- so PERFECT for this table.

I decorate my porch Americana for the summer and some of it spills into the house -- my oldest was born 4th of July (he will be 29 this year) so the holiday has had duel-duty at our house and we make a big deal of it :)

    Blessings!

  15. The only holiday I don't decorate for is St. Patty's day. I'm all over the red, white and blue right now. Tomorrow's blog post is going to be filled with all kinds of patriotic decor. By the way, hugs from Michigan! Tee hee.

  16. Very pretty! I'm so far behind -- just started with my patriotic decorating! I did a little for Memorial Day but want to add to it!

  17. I think we're all starting to thinking about busting out the flags! I do love the 4th, but I also dread it... to me, it always seems like summer is downhill after the 4th and goes by too fast and then it's time to start school again. Summer restores my soul.

  19. Your lantern looks very handsome in it's patriotic attire. I have a few items that I take out of storage year after year. And, of course, I hang our flag outside.

  23. This is a nice idea, especially with the 4th of July coming. I used to decorate when the kids were small, but not so much any more. You know, this reminds me of the centerpiece that will on the tables at Nel's wedding. She will have red roses and also a black lantern on the table with a candle inside. It looks so pretty, and this lantern looks wonderful with the postcard and the flags and the candle inside.
