    Painted Mason Jar Craft Fail

Published by Pam Kessler | 173 words. · About 1 minute to read this article. - 28 Comments

This isn't exactly a craft fail. More like a craft meh (insert shoulder shrug here).

I've been seeing painted mason jars all over Pinterest and on numerous blogs. And I thought they sort of looked cute.

So off I go and grab my paintbrush and some green craft paint and paint away.

Painted mason jar as a vase (or spaghetti sauce jar)

OK, so it's a spaghetti sauce jar instead of a mason jar. But a jar is a jar is a jar, right? Right?

Maybe not. It just looks like a painted spaghetti sauce jar.

Live and learn. If I'm going to jump on a crafting bandwagon, jump on with both feet planted firmly in the bandwagon and avoid the tuba.

Or something about not falling off the wagon maybe?

Or not getting your toes run over by the wagon?

Or not letting the wagon roll over and trap Adam under it (random Little House On The Prairie reference)?

OK, let's just make it simple. Just use a mason jar.

Have you painted any mason jars lately? Did they come out as well as could be expected?

That's funny. Our spaghetti sauce comes in mason jars. From the grocery store. I just looked at your little green fellow and said "that ain't no mason jar, jack." So that's what your spaghetti jars look like. Hmmm. Have you considered changing brands?

You are too hard on yourself. I really love the color of paint and that tag is pretty cool.

I think it looks nice! Of course, I like my own painted pasta sauce jars, so I'm biased. They do say mason on them, so I consider them to be mason jars. 😉

I've seen painted jars around too. Just wondering-- what kind of paint did you use? I haven't tried it myself.

I just used the craft paint you find at Hobby Lobby in those little bottles. I think it's DecoArt.

I didn't know it was a spaghetti jar until you mentioned it. I think it looks cute! Very good idea...I don't want to paint my jars and I like the look. This is a good idea...or to buy old jars at thrift stores then paint them.

I love that you're keeping it real by being completely honest with your "meh" project. Not everything turns out perfectly, and in the blog world everything seems to be focused on the perfect outcomes of the projects we get in to. It's nice to see a few imperfections out there! 😉

Personally never painted one. Like the matte finish of yours. LOOKS nice.

I just painted a bunch of them. And yes, they were Spaghetti Sauce jars (but don't tell my grandma!). I used spray paint! I also saw a tutorial where someone painted with chalkboard paint and then spray painted over and then distressed. I tried this and they turned out pretty cute. 🙂 On a side note, I tried to paint one with a paint brush and it turned out MUCH worse than your nice green one!

I have seen them and they are cute. I like the ones that are painted on the inside. I would think a spray paint would work better on the outside.

I just commented to Sandy over at 521 Lake Street that I have been wanting to try painted Mason jars! I think this is a sign....

I think it's cuter than a mason jar...love the measuring markings. What is more thrifty...to buy mason jars or recycle jars? I kept wondering what you hated about it...it looks really sweet and springy.

Thank you! I wonder if it's the fact that I painted it on with a paintbrush that I don't like? I think I was expecting more of a smooth finish to it and it's sort of almost textured. It is beginning to grow on me though 🙂

Pam, you always make me smile.
You have such a cute personality that shines through.

I actually like the way your jar turned out , as well. It looks very Spring-ish.

I've seen jars painted also on Pinterest, and one of these days, I'll give it a try.

Enjoy the remainder of your week.

      Smiles 🙂
