Dreaming Of An Estate Sale Haul

Published by Pam Kessler | 354 words. · About 2 minutes to read this article. -

OK, so it's not exactly a haul per se.

I should reserve that term for a huge pile o' junk. But I did manage to find a few cool things at the estate sale on Friday.

I'm just a little bit giddy over this very retro looking metal Christmas tree stand.

    Vintage Metal Christmas Tree Stand

Since I had arrived over an hour AFTER the sale had started, I was surprised that no one before me had nabbed it.

Because who in their right mind would overlook this puppy!

I also was surprised that this snowflake Pyrex casserole dish hadn't been adopted yet.

    Snowflake Pyrex Casserole Bowl

I've been eyeing them on some of the Pyrex lovers' sites (you know who you are). So I was excited when I saw it in the Craigslist photos for the estate sale, but never dreamed it would still be there when I arrived at the sale.

Not that I dream about estate sales the night before I attend them.

And imagine which room of the house the stuff that caught my eye would be in.

And then visualize the floor plan of the house based on the Google Maps street view of the exterior.

And formulate a game plan of attack for said floor plan, based on the items that I'm most interested in.

Kitchen first, then basement, then garage, then bedrooms.

Nope, that would just be crazy.

Now this needlepoint thingie. I actually CAN see why it wasn't picked up with the first wave of serious, hard core estate salers.

I just don't think it's one of those super-marketable items at the antique malls.

But since when am I concerned about what's popular? What's trendy?

Not I, says the girl who has a deer head on her wall. And a Lane cedar chest in the living room.

It wasn't until I had gotten home that I realized I sort of had a Christmas theme going on. Must have been dreaming of a white Christmas the night before also.

So do you formulate a game plan for attacking an estate sale? Or do you just prefer to wing it and enjoy the spontaneity of the experience.

Cool "Christmas finds". I also dream of estate sales where I'm the first one to show up and I get to shop all by myself...it's a nice dream...even if it doesn't get anywhere near reality.

Oh my goodness....we are in each other's head. I dream that I get there on a rainy day and no one else would go.....and that grandma never got anything new.....and that the sale person would say, you know, we just got to get rid of it....so take what you want.....
Oh, sorry, in one of those dreams again!!

Love your finds! I don't have a plan of attack for all the estate sales I visit either....or an app that maps them out 🙂

I'll admit I'm one of the ones that would have been fighting for that Pyrex casserole you bought! Great score! Love that tree stand, too! I head straight to the kitchen at an estate sale.... After that, it's just wherever I can fit into a room. Estate sales are very popular around here.

Ha! I dream of the estate sales I see online in OTHER areas then where I live, as they aren't too frequent around my parts! Where I USED to live they have so many every weekend within 50 miles of where I lived that I drool over the ads / pics. I always head to kitchen first, then bedrooms and back little rooms on the hunt for milk glass, other cool vintage / retro items. Now looking for Verde pyrex too. I look for linens and doiles. And the little cardinal you found? I would have snatched that up for MY decor - I have some vintage cardinals for holiday decor but I love them year-round too. So up on the wall that would have gone!

You gotta start somewhere, right? Every sale I've gone to this year is slightly better than the last one. I would have been super happy with what you found (especially the Pyrex even though I have like 3 of those). Fingers crossed you have so many estate sales to go to this weekend that you have a hard time figuring out where to start 🙂

I prefer to wing it and sometimes (often) come home with things that I shouldn't. But it's so much fun! I do like your tree stand and casserole, and your sweet bird picture is going to fit in perfectly with one of your Christmas vignettes.

Is it bad that we dream about Estate Sales? LOL I always go to the bedrooms first because I am always looking for doilies, old linens, etc. and that's usually where they are.

I am so anxious for the warm weather to get here and stay so the garage sales and Estate sales will be plentiful and full of stuff.

Oh, dear, now I'll probably dream about them tonight. See what you put in my head?

I have only been to 3 estate sales in my life. I didn't really know what what was going on at the first to. We doing garage sales & stopped in. They were insane hours after they begun. I want to start going really bad! Nervous though.

      Love the Pyrex, obviously.

LOVE all your finds. Loving that tree stand, though. When I go to a sale like that I just wing it.

My life is full of just winging it 🙂 You do seem to have a Christmas theme going--I still haven't recupperated from last Christmas yet!

I have stopped because I need to gt rid of stuff. I am hoping that in 2 years I will be in a Senior apartment complex close to my son and granddaughter so I won't be needing anything new or old. I plan on really down sizing so there will be many things to sell. I don't need a three bedroom home, garden and 2 car garage. But trust me I would love to look and shop.
      You found some great items.

I look at all the posted photos, but I always hit the kitchen 1st followed by the back yard & garage. If there is a photo of something I really want - like vintage office supplies - I will veer from my normal plan of attack. I have never imagined the house's floor plan before, but I will now! (we have very few basements in Texas) I love that tree stand!

Chris and I totally plot our escape sale adventures. We've been known to Google spy out the neighborhood ahead of time. If we are lucky enough to go together, I hit the basement first while he hits the garage. Divide and CONQUER! I definitely dream of estate sale rooms filled with holiday and crafting goodness. A girls just got to dream!
