    Mixing Bowls

Published by Pam Kessler | 411 words. · About 3 minutes to read this article. -

On a recent post I showed you a McCoy pitcher that I bought at a thrift store for $1.91. Although I thought that particular pitcher was ugly, I normally love the look of McCoy. I think it's the the rich colors and the glazing they used on the pieces that attracts me. I love the mixing bowls in particular.

These are some old mixing bowls that I have displayed on top of my kitchen cabinets.

They are 99.9% for looks, because the old ones aren't food safe anymore and the newer ones are well, dusty.

This green one is a McCoy bowl. I bought it for myself for my birthday a few years ago. I found it on eBay and was so excited when the bowl arrived. I washed it immediately and had it sitting on my breakfast bar waiting for it to dry. Out of the corner of my eye I saw my cat looking at it and then quickly stepping into it and trying to curl up and make a bed in it.

This bowl is probably 6" wide, so his butt didn't begin to fit in here. It tipped over, fell on the floor and broke into 5,000 pieces. I cried.

No Otis, I don't know what you were thinking either.

I glued as much of it together as I could, but there is still a hole in the back. That is what started me putting my bowls on the top of my kitchen cabinets. You can hide a lot of problems up there.

These are newer bowls made by Fioriware Pottery, but they have a vintage look to them.

This is also a Fioriware Pottery bowl. Fioriware Pottery is located in Southeastern Ohio which is where many of the more famous pottery makers were located - McCoy, Shawnee, Hull, Watt, Weller and Roseville among others.

These are newer bowls, but unmarked.

These next three bowls are older bowls, but I am unsure of their manufacturer.

I love the designs on these types of bowls.

Oh, and I almost forgot, I have one of these mixing bowls that is a McCoy. I use it a lot, so I don't put it on top of the cabinets.

It's part of a set that would have other different colored banded bowls with it. This is the only one of the set that I have though.

What do you like to collect? Do you use them or just look at them?

All of your bowls are beautiful. I posted the winner of the truck contest my sisters and I had back in September. I also am having a give away for my 100th blog in just a few days so hope you will be able to come by for a visit. Debbie

Oh, I was just sick when you said that wonderful bowl was broken into so many pieces. It does look nice on the shelf, but I can just imagine your dismay when that happened! So sorry. I love your collection, the bowls are wonderful. Happy VTT!

Great bowls! I love bowls, too, I have the one like your white one and the brown. My white one says USA on the bottom. McCoy did make some products with USA. If you'd like to see my bowl collection, I posted about them on Oct. 3. I am a first time visitor and really enjoy your blog. I going to become a follower!

I love your bowls. Your cat is adorable. I got a new cat last month and she is into and on everything. It doesn't look like she is ever going to behave.

Nice collection of bowls, Pam! I have one like the one with the pink/blue that I use all the time...have had it for years. I have a huge yellowware bowl with white stripes that I use as my bread rising bowl, it will hold large 4 loaves.

      Oh Pam! As I was reading this, I thought....there is no way Otis could fit in that bowl. I guess like a lot of us, Otis just doesn't realize how big his bum is. ;o}

I love your bowl collection. I collect dust bunnies, mostly.

Actually, I used to collect Boyd's Bears. Jordan has asthma and I soon realized how much dust they collect. I sold many of them on eBay and have the rest packed up in a box.

This summer I bought a couple of teacup/saucers. I think I am going to slowly add to that collection. La

I love your mixing bowls Pam. I have a brown one, it's similar to your brown one, but more plain. It's very old, and I've not really looked for the maker, but since reading your post I will. I also have four or five vintage white milk glass mixing bowls I purchased 15 years ago and still use them all the time. They are the kind that go beneath the old time electric mixers. I collect all sorts of items too numerous to count, and most are used for looks.

I love your bowls. I'll bet you wanted to bean Otis for just a minute there. I love old bowls too and have a couple of real old timers. I used to display them but I don't really have the place in this house as we have very limited overhead cabinetry. Yours are great. I love that green one and the deep brown one a lot! Hugs- Diana

Otis was trying to nap of course! But I would have cried too Pam. I think you have seen some of my stuff: Delft, Fenton black onyx, vintage wooden bowls, vintage lamps, pottery, and oil paintings. That is a start to the list and a find at a yard sale may start a new collection on Saturday! hugs♥olive

I LOVE old mixing bowls Pam. Ironically I don't have any, but I love looking at them. Oh, Otis so glad to see you still alive, that would have been debatable, or at least a boot outdoors. Gonna look up the Fioriware, I don't know where it is. Thanks for the info and the tour Pam!
