    Pulling My Hares Out

Published by Pam Kessler | 209 words. · About 2 minutes to read this article. -

I have been trying to find a vignette to put these guys in for a couple days now. Tried them all sorts of places and finally just plopped them on top of my suitcase next to my McCoy vase full of pussy willows.

Sometimes you have to just stop thinking so hard about something.

I found my friends in a store closing sale last fall, so I picked them up for half price. $5.00 a hare.

The tags say they are vintage Easter candy containers. And I really want to believe that.

    I really do.

But something about them says "a little too roughed up to be really vintage" to me. Like they are trying a little too hard.

Whatever their age, these two guys make me smile and dream of tulips and daffodils and running naked through fields of jelly beans.

Here's a question for you. Assuming these are vintage, did these paper mache candy containers come filled with candy when purchased or were they just empty containers that you bought to add your own candy to?

You can say that your Grandmother told you about them, if you don't want to admit to being old enough to remember them in person. I do that all the time.

I think somebunny got a great deal whether they're old or new. They are oh so cute sitting there together waiting to be filled with Cadbury Eggs. Please tell me Cadbury Eggs fit down their chimneys! 🙂

I hare you on the vintage/not vintage dilemma. My jadiete green enamel teapot? One of a kind? Nope. I saw 5 of them recently, in the exact condition as mine, at a local "antique" shop. Koinkydink? I think not.

They are such nice pastel, Springish colors. Vintage is kind of a not so exact term. Some people think the 1980's are vintage. They look like they may be from the 40's or 50'to me,from the way the colors are shaded, but I can always tell more by holding items in my hands. At any rate, vintage or not, they are very cute arranged on the little suitcase. Suddenly I am hungry for jelly beans.

I think they might be vintage - I have seen Christmas and Halloween candy holders like this. I love their scuffed up finishes.

Ah hem! I remember these, from the forties. They were in a glass counter display, in rows and rows. They were filled with jelly beans and the chimney was stuffed with excelsior. As I recall, they came home scuffed from scraping against each other.

Well, whether your little hares are truly vintage or not - they are as sweet as cotton candy! I've never seen anything like them. They look just perfect sitting on the case.
      Be a sweetie,

He he he... $5/hare. I've never seen hares of this sort...but they are darn cute. I'm thinking they probably came with candy in them but they certainly wouldn't hold the amount of chocolate that would be my ideal Easter serving! Very cute though! 🙂

Nekkid(southern for naked) through fields of jelly beans? I am going to have to give that some thought and then think about the hares who are cute.

They are fabulous. Love their pastel tints and being chipped up gives them lots of character. You got a good deal on those hares.
