The iris bed is in bloom.
When we first moved into this house, the iris bed was much, much larger.
I am not a fan of dividing and transplanting bulbs and all that nonsense, so I have just let them be. I was going for a zen like approach to gardening.
Which pretty much explains why the bed is shrinking instead of growing. These guys love to be divided every so often and their legs given a chance to stretch out.
That and the weed wacker. My husband has a hard time differentiating between flower leaves and grass leaves and these guys don't like to be beat to a pulp on a regular basis.
Then we have the dog issue. They tend to wander in and out of the plants here and my iris have started to be a favorite napping place for them. Napping on iris always results in a lot of snapping sounds coming from that area.
And a snapping iris is not a happy iris.
Do you grow iris? Are you a better guardian of the iris than I am?

This will be our 8th summer at our current house. I'm ashamed to say that after the first few years of creating perennial gardens, I haven't done much. Now that I see your beautiful iris bed, I may get motivated to add some this fall. Remind me please. :@

I love iris. I brought some from my parents' house when they moved to a senior condo. Sadly, they don't do too well in my yard -- not enough sun. Yours are lovely. We are still some weeks away from iris blooms I think. We're having a cold spell; it was 28 degrees when I woke up!

I do have Iris. Mine are old and need to be put to rest. I need to start again with new and fresh. I've been thinking about getting some in the ground now so I can enjoy by fall. Rust, blue and maybe some pink. Yours are quite beautiful. I have a lab that likes to lay in the middle of everything. Ferns, bleeding heart, any plant is a good plant.

Pam, I LOVE the purple irises! Your bed is beautiful! I think Olive's idea of sharing your irises is a good one! Every iris I have was divided from a friend's garden. Just don't divide them all at one time and it's easier. If you can pay a teenager to do the digging, it's even easier still! It's really easy to plant the tubers.

Your irises are quite lovely. We brought several varieties from my grandmother's former house when we moved to our current home. If it weren't for my husband, none of our plants would thrive. I love them dearly, but I don't take any credit for their upkeep. I'm a happy camper with the lawn mower, but I don't pick up a shovel or hose very often. Happy spring!

They are one of my favorites. Mine grow just barely under ground. I just grab the bulb?, tuber? and pull it out. I skipped about three years doing that and this year I only had one bloom. Hopefully, next year they will do better since I finally thinned them.

They are beautiful. I just dug up fifteen or so from the old house where they were being choked out by weeds and lacking sun and planted them on a sunny hill at the yellow house. I hope they make it. We divided our day lilies last fall and they are blooming this week, so totally worth it. Maybe someone you know would like some iris and could dig them out and it would benefit you both.
