Sometimes garage sale finds come in bunches.
You look forever for an item and then when you finally find that one specific item you are overjoyed. Ecstatic. Tickled pink.
Then the next week you find another one. And another one. Until you are at the point that you see this once coveted item ALL. THE. TIME.
I've got a feeling that typewriters are going to be like that for me.
A few weeks ago I found a vintage Number 10 Royal typewriter at an estate sale. I was thrilled. I named her Kate.
On Friday, I found a Remington Quiet-Riter at a church garage sale.
She's from the 1950's I think, so not quite as mature as Kate. But she still has that old manual typewriter appeal to me. The whole sweet bell ringing thing is still there.
I gave her to my niece, because a girl doesn't need more than one typewriter in her life. And it's only right that my niece have the honor of naming her, since she'll be residing in her home.
I found a few other items at the church garage sale. Like this Christmas candle thing.
Carrie from Junque Magnet had shown some Christmas candles that she had spray painted light pink and glued some vintage ornaments on. I sort of fell in love with her pink candles when I saw them. And I'm not even normally a pink kind of girl.
I see a facelift in my candelabra's future.
Gosh, did I pick up another piece of silverplate at that same church garage sale? It was small, so it doesn't really count as cheating now, does it.
And whenever I see some wooden spools, I buy them to use for future projects. Not that I have a specific wooden spool project in mind at this time, they just seem like they will come in handy one day.
Anyone have any cute ideas for these?
We also picked up a vintage 2003 Spongebob book for the kiddo. Ok, maybe not vintage, but he's a fun read.
Did you find anything fun this weekend?

I just love typewriters, Pam! The last one I found, I gave to my niece for her little boy. He is fascinated with the keys! Let me know what you're gonna do with those wooden spools- I must have 3 bags full! LOL xo Sue

You'll be shocked, but I never see any yard sales around here! I guess I don't get out much LOL! Especially not on a Saturday morning. 😉
I do like all of your "loot" though! I have one of those old typewriters. In the early 70's my father and uncle used to have the typewriter and calculator business at Macy's in NYC, then Macy's took over the dept! So anyway, there's one in my shed. Yes, it's hidden away somewhere in there. I'm sure you are saying, "Horrors!!" I look forward to seeing where you put yours... maybe you can give me an idea of where to put it and I will dig mine out. 🙂
Best,
Gloria

That tends to happen to me alot too. I found a couple items at an estate sale this weekend but I haven't posted them yet. I also went to a few antique shops.
Can't wait to see your finds next week!

Love the silverplate- I'm a sucker for that kind of stuff, too. Spongebob made me smile.
And my mom had an old undrewood typewriter that she used in high school that I used to practice on when I was in high school. Have no idea where it got to, but I am sure someone saved it.

Too hot to yard sale for me this weekend, but you did great! My heart breaks every time I see an old typewriter...tossed one from my parents' house when cleaning it out after they passed away. Sadness and fatigue got the better of my thinking on that one. You found some nice ones.
As for the spools...I stash them too...why? My granny used them for draw pulls out of necessity, but that would be cute now. Best, Vicki

Some great stuff. I just saw a typewriter like that on a local Facebook page for sale. I'm really thinking twice about it. Would make a great conversation piece.

Fun finds...I have a stash of spools too. I was thinking they'd make cute drawer pulls??? Chat soon, Laurel

I didn't go to the Flea this weekend. But, did buy a chair last weekend for $ 9.00. It is fab. I'll have to post pics. Nice finds!

You always find the most interesting treasurers. I'm loving the makeover idea for your vintage electric candles. I'm hoping to get my hand on a few and do something eccentric/vintage at Halloween. Happy creating!

We have that exact typewriter. It was my husband's father who used it to get through college!
As for the spools, do you know how to carve? I carve Santa faces into mine. You can also paint them, wrap ribbon around them, and glue a bottle brush tree to it.
I just donated a huge bagful of those vintage electric candles from a Sr. Citizens Center who was going to through them away, to my local thrift. Part of me wanted to keep them...but I'm trying to be good and only keeping what I love!

That typewriter is exactly like the one my mother had! It stayed open on her desk in the bedroom more often than closed and put away. I loved that typewriter. Loved the way it looked as well as smelled. Thanks for the memory. Now I've got to go see what this pink candle thing is all about. 🙂

lol, I think I'm connected to your coveted item. A friend added a similar typewriter to my barn sale. The craig's list ad helped, thanks for the advice. My daughter and I are more in sell than buy mode right now but my husband picked up an awesome vintage bug sprayer for me for only $2. I shouted "YOU GET ME" because at first he didn't understand why I'm collected fly killing vintage items, but now he does. Oh and SpongeBob is deep, that's why he lives in the ocean. I love him. 😉

I think I learned to type on an old Remington like that...well at least I pecked on one as a kid! 🙂 Wooden spools are always a good find! That was a good church sale!!!

Well, I worked all weekend so no fun for me. However, that Remington Quiet-Riter you have? It was still being used in the 60's in typing classes. We had mostly the old Royals but there were TWO R-Q-Riters and everyone tried to rush to class to get those first-they were so much easier to type on.
I love your finds-I'd say you did pretty good-and that piece of silver? Well, it's not really SILVER till you polish it, is it?;>) xo Diana

What a great addition to a collection! It's ok to pass on the love. Love her buttons. Andrea @ townandprairie

No shopping for me this weekend. There were a lot of sales, including the Rt. 127 sale, but it was just too hot for me this year.
