    Sharpening My Pencils

Published by Pam Kessler | 146 words. · About 1 minute to read this article. - 24 Comments

I put my son on the bus this morning. First day of school!!!

We've had a wonderful summer, but it's time to get back to school.

And back to work. Well, blogging I guess. Not sure if you can call something that you love work.

I found this pencil sharpener at an estate sale this summer.

It was attached to the wall in the basement and wasn't actually for sale. But once I laid eyes on it, I wanted it!

So I ran to find the estate sale worker and asked him if I could, pretty please, buy it. The answer was yes, but only if I could get it off the wall myself. Off I went to the garage and rummaged through the toolboxes that were for sale and found an appropriate sized screwdriver and went to work.

Who knew they made pink pencil sharpeners!

We never had the big wall sharpeners at home, just the little ones in our pencil bags. Cool!

We had a HUGE metal pencil sharpener, with adjustable holes for different sized pencils, at home when I was a kid -- mounted on the back of the cellar stairs. I still remember that sound!

Love the pink one. I had NO idea that Boston made them in colors. Wow. GREAT find!

I love that you wanted the sharpener enough to ask the worker. It is a beauty.

Students are always shocked to realize that I am as sorry as them to see the summer end...I must continue buying lottery tickets, since I seem to be most content as a lady of leisure. That said, the old pencil sharpeners are so, so superior to what is being sold nowadays. I don't want to sound like Debbie Downer, but when I find an old fashioned crank sharpener, I snatch it up since they do the job. Sometimes, the old way is the best way. I have had 3 electric sharpeners die on me and I'm not impressed. Pink, who knew?

Such pencil sharpener memories you have roused up. Ours was from the twenties or thirties, probably from my grandfather's garage. It was in the hall closet when I grew up; it's currently screwed to the bottom shelf of a plant stand. The grandkids use it often.
School starts tomorrow. Yippee (quiet, under my breath0.

Back to school already...Coleen doesn't start back until Sept. 3rd.
Would you believe I have a pencil sharpener just like that only mine is bright red. I'm thinking yours has faded over the years. My dad had one on his desk and when he passed away I asked to have it. I'll have to get a photo of it and send it to you. What a great find and I'm so glad they let you buy it.
