    Milk Glass At Home

Published by Pam Kessler | 181 words. · About 1 minute to read this article. -

I ran across this milk glass planter at a garage sale for 25 cents and well, for 25 cents, you knew it was coming home with me.

I have a couple of pieces of milk glass. My Hen On A Nest

and my lamp are two pieces that I can think of off the top of my head.

But, in general, I find them a little hard to decorate with. Milk glass tends to be just a little too glaringly white for me. I normally go for things more in the ironstone shade of white, which I find to be a little warmer.

So for now I have it on my kitchen counter with some charger cords stuffed in it, right next to my lamp and bread board. I really had no plans of using it as a planter when I bought it. Even in that two second window of seeing the piece, seeing the price tag on it and buying it, I knew it was going to be a storage item.

Do you decorate with milk glass in your home?

Oh yeah, just dusted a shelf in the bookcase with four urns that are milk glass. I pair them with our Granny's teapots. I have a madness for urns of any sort it seems. xoxo, Olive

I have lots of milk glass. Not long ago I decided to only keep the hobnail kind. I have an antiques booth so I put the pieces I didn't want to keep there to sell. I'm surprised that only one of the 10 milk glass pieces sold. I even marked them wayyyy down. Selling them only a tiny bit above thrift store prices. I mix them with everything. I have white trim throughout the house so I think it works (at least I hope so!). I like your new planter. And great deal!

I love that planter Pam -- I am with you, I like milk glass and have a few pieces myself by=ut don't have much or use it much because of the whiteness of it, lol. I have a couple art deco looking vases that I always seem to use at Valentine's Day for some reason -- the whiteness just goes well with pink and red I guess 🙂

      Blessings!

Such a pretty piece, Pam! I don't have any milk glass; I tend to like the warmer whites, too. Growing up, I had a friend whose mother had a lot of milk glass pieces. The ones I most associate with milk glass look like your lamp.

I have some pieces that I use- a fruit bowl, that holds bananas every day...a cake stand I love, and several other pieces. I love it when I see someone do a whole hutch in special pieces, but I just mix it in...

      Hi Pam.
I don't have any milk glass pieces...I think it's the glaring white, just like you said. I am your newest follower. Thanks for stopping by Posed Perfection today and leaving me a sweet note about the Put on a Happy Vase post. I hope you'll visit again soon and maybe even follow me back. Have a great week.

I'm currently in some sort of milk glass daze -- mixing bowls and vases and other odd little pieces. I like the stark white because it fools me into thinking my house is clean. I use several little pieces in my bathroom to hold important things like my toothbrush and advil. 🙂

that piece has great lines. I have my Grandmothers milk glass in my pink bedroom...glad I was smart enough to keep it all.

I really don't think I have any milk glass... hmmm.. I think I'll have to look around now, and take notice 🙂

I have some milk glass pieces, though they're not my favorite thing to collect. However, I have never seen a piece like your latest and would have snatched it up in a heartbeat. Do you know anything about it? One of the things I enjoy about finding unique items is using them for other purposes, instead of just being decorative.

I have some that I used to use during the Summer months but haven't used them for awhile.
They are in a box under the guest bed currently.
Love your planter as a holder for things.

Has your son gone back to school yet?

I love your milk glass! I have quite a bit of it and, yes, I do decorate with it. Milk glass really brightens up a room. Love your pieces.

Milk glass used to be so popular years back. Now it is hard to find.
I am in love with your Springer head.

Love your milk glass, Pam. I had 5 of those hens on a nest (their beaks are red). They were advertising promos for Granddad AA's hatchery business. I gave one to each kid for Christmas few years ago. I have 2 milk glass vases that I use. xo Diana
