    The Fabulous Iris Bed Reveal

Published by Pam Kessler | 266 words. · About 2 minutes to read this article. -

    Or not!

Two weeks ago when I bragged about how great my iris would look I should have known it's not nice to brag. I think I even used the word spectacular. Stupid, stupid, stupid.

Iris up against a brick wall.
Well, we've had a wild spring here in Ohio. Rain, wind, abnormally low temps. All this continued while my iris started to bloom little by little.

    Purple iris with raindrops.
Daily I would go out to the bed to see a few blooms here and there, but I was really waiting for that awesome couple of days when they all seem to pop out at once and it's a beautiful sea of blueness.

The incessant rain continued. And continued. It seemed like it would never stop.

Close up of a purple iris with raindrops.
When it finally did stop and I could run out and take some photos, I was staring at a battered iris bed. Past its prime and hardly spectacular. Sort of mediocre as far as iris go.

Normally the iris bed spans from one end of this photo to the other. The entire south end of our house is planted with an ever expanding bed of iris.

It is a pretty lackluster display this year, so I will have to wait until next year for that big, huge spectacular display.

    Purple iris.
Oops, am I boasting again? Now I've jinxed next spring also.

    Purples iris.
I did find this unique yellow iris amongst the blue. I thought it was a weird mutant iris, but it seems that they do actually come in other colors than my blue. Who knew?

It was so top-heavy that it has fallen in the clover and couldn't get up.

    Yellow iris.

The third photo down is gorgeous! Great color and clarity. Sorry about that blasted rain. We have had our share too. The grass is really green but not much blooming action.

Your iris' look pretty darn good to me Pam. That rain! It just ruins everything doesn't it? My flowering crab apple tree is finally about to bloom and now they are talking rain. All those pretty flowers will be laying on the ground 🙁

So sorry that the wind has tossed your iris about, but they still have their beauty and your photos are just breath taking! Loved this post so much. And yes, the iris come in so many colors and styles. They even come in pink...a friend gave me some a couple years ago that bloom twice a year!
Have a great night, sweetie and thanks for always stopping by!

      Darn it!

It's bad enough we Ohioans are relegated to annually state "wait til next year" when we are talking about sports...now we have to hope for better gardening next year?

      That's just not right!

Do Iris' come in Creamsicle?? LOL!!
I'm just joking with you. Your iris beds look amazing. You really captured them with your lens. Yes, there is always next year. I keep saying the same thing here.

Divide them in the fall and they will really knock your socks out/off later. Our iris are that yellow color. I need your rain...we got two tenths of an inch...big whoopie. Your images are lovely.

I don't know , Pam, but your irises look pretty spectacular to me! You really have a lot! I do love the purple ones best... they say "iris" to me as well.

Now, an orange Dreamsicle candle sounds very appealing! I would go back for that, yes I would!

You sent all your rain this way Pam and it's whooping up on my peonies! Sorry you missed the best days of the iris, but I sure know how that goes. They still look great to me, lovin' the yellow one:@)

It still looks really pretty to me! I'm waiting on my irises to bloom; I don't have as many as you do, but I have a couple. I didn't get any blooms last year because I moved them in spring, but I see buds this year. I'm crossing my fingers that I get some blooms! Mine are a pale pink color, with darker purple and yellow throats. The color name was called "Ballerina".
