Styling The Top Of A Cabinet Four Different Ways

Published by Pam Kessler | 308 words. · About 2 minutes to read this article. -

I've had the top of my living room cabinet roughly the same for the last nine months, which is an absolute eternity in blog years.

It's been some version of this olive bucket look, give or take a few items.

    1. Olive You a Bushel And A Peck

Olive bucket on top of a cabinet for a farmhouse look.

-includes my olive bucket, a wooden crate and my folding ruler turned into a star from my Patriotic Porch.

The olive bucket used to have holly in it back at Christmastime.

But since it had been up there so darn long, I was itching to change things up just a bit, so I played around with some different arrangements.

    2. It's A Breeze

Vintage fan on top of a cabinet.

    - includes a vintage fan that may or may not work.

My husband has this silly little rule that I don't plug any of my vintage electric finds into our sockets. Something about sparks flying or something sensible like that.

Seriously though, you should always rewire the vintage things that you buy, just for safety's sake.

    3. I've Got Baggage

3 vintage suitcases on top of a cabinet for an eclectic decorating style.

    - includes some of my vintage suitcases.

The one on top is the one I showed you on Friday. I have sewing supplies and vintage linens in the bottom two, so not sure how practical it will be to climb up onto a ladder to get out a bobbin.

Who am I kidding? I'd have to find my sewing machine before I'd be in need of a bobbin!

    4. Born In A Barn

A farmhouse look on top of a cabinet including a red toy barn and some toolboxes.

-includes the toy barn I got at the estate sale in May and some farm-ish stuff I've purchased over the last few years.

FYI, that bunch of hydrangea was dried in that Ball jar almost three years ago and it's still going strong. And you can't even see the cobwebs on it unless you get up real close.

Do you have a favorite look?

Wow... where were you when I needed to decorate the top of my cabinet? I was going crazy buying and returning all sorts of stuff at Hobby Lobby. Great job love it.

The baggage gets my vote! You don't need to climb up to retrieve your thread! Just do what I do. Put all your mending in a bag and leave it for a few years. By then everybody's forgotten about the missing buttons, etc. and you can cut the stuff up for rags. Works for me!

You are a hoot! I read " not sure how practical it is to climb up a ladder for a bobbin" with my mouth full of Diet Coke--!i just finished wiping it off my ipad. 😉 Thanfully I read the "cobwebs" remark with an empty mouth! I do love your posts!

You did a great job arranging all of the displays.....my two favorites are the fan (a very summery look) and the suitcases because i just LOVE old suitcases. You definitely can't go wrong with any of the looks.

They are all great. I have a toy barn that my husband's grandfather made for husband when he was a boy. I will have to dig that out of my boxes now. Thanks for some great ideas. Since Ohio is so darn hot, I'd lean towards the fan look. I also have a vintage fan, but I must love to live dangerously. I plug mine in all the time.

Oh gosh, I love them all but I'm partial to "It's a breeze" since it's so freakin hot here! I must admit, I still have a tv in a cabinet too!!! LOL!!~~Ang

Blogging sure does keep us on our toes, doesn't it? Having something stay the same for 6 months...NEVER!! 😉

I love them all, but the luggage is my fav. That's just me being Ms. Practicality. I love anything that contains storage as well as being decorative.

Those are awesome changes. I loved them all. You could have a change every month. Thanks for sharing.

Can't pick just one, they all look great. I have several old fans that I can't plug in (I keep saying one day I will get them rewired) so if I had to pick I would go with the fan.

I love them all but my fave might be the barn one - that is so sweet!

I'm a fan of the FAN look. Those webbing pillows are too cute!
I went to an Estate Sale and the lady GAVE me a sewing machine...I'd have to find it too and I have no idea how to do a bobbin.
      Have a good week Pam!

You know me. I love miniature things and that barn is fabulous. All of your vignettes are pretty darn neat though. You must have had fun climbing up and down with your treasures. Smile.

I vote for the baggage. It doesn't look like it needs seasonal updating. so except for the Thanksgiving table cloth, you're home free until the next time it crosses your mind.
