    Pink Flamingo Decor Ideas

Published by Pam Kessler | 716 words. · About 4 minutes to read this article. -

Look. There's one thing you need to know about me. I LOVE pink flamingos!

Sure, some people think they are gaudy. Or tacky. Or just plain ugly.

But in my opinion, the world would be a little less fabulous and a lot less colorful without a heaping dose of pink flamingo decor.

Pink flamingo decor and DIY project ideas for slightly kitschy, always fun, home decor ideas. Pink flamingo decor is HOT for summer patio decor also!

I think my love affair with the pink little guys started with this 1950's era pink flamingo salt and pepper shaker set. I'm going to go out on a limb and say they are a souvenir from Florida!

    Just a hunch.

And I've always had at least one pair of the plastic ones in my yard for years.

That's a given. You can not be in the official Pink Flamingo Fan Club if you don't show your true colors with the classic yard decor.

I recently got all gaga over this fantastic flamingo fabric I found at JoAnn Fabrics in the outdoor fabric section.

    I mean REALLY!

    How cute is this fabric?

    Pink flamingo fabric

It sort of reminds me of barkcloth fabric from the 50's. Except it's not really as textural as barkcloth normally is, but it definitely has the look!

I made it into some snazzy porch pillows.

You can read more about my front porch decor HERE.

I had for a minute thought of making it into curtains, but then the whole "what am I going to do with pink flamingo curtains in my dining room at Christmastime" thought flew into my head and deterred me. The vibrant pink flamingos don't exactly go with green and red and a whole lot of ho ho ho.

    Wait, or do they?

I decorated an entire Christmas tree in a slightly kitschy pink flamingo theme. OK, it was for Christmas In July, but it still was CHRISTMAS!

I got to thinking that I cannot be the only person who loves pink flamingos, so I scoured the internet to find some other neat flamingo projects and ideas.

Love the pink flamingo goodness! That fabric is so lovely, it really does look like vintage. And the chandelier?? How FUN would that be for a party? Happy Monday! xo

LOVE the fabric! Was also thinking it looked like bark cloth. At this moment in time, all I have is the bottle of rum, BUT will be making a trip to JoAnn's too. 🙂

      I'm not a flamingo fan.

That said, the fabric is really cute! It really looks vintage.

And that wedding! Wow! Gorgeous and such a great way to incorporate flamingos! Who would have thought?

All that I can say is...I live in Miami, so you know I love flamingos! Great fabric.

It's like you're inside my mind. I've been obsessed with flamingos for the past year or so. My husband will not allow pink anything in our new house. So, I told him that I'm going to buy a vintage camper and redo it in everything pink. And this fabric will make fabulous curtains/throw pillows!

And, in case anyone's interested, there are a lot of vintage flamingo salt & peppers on ebay & they don't all say "Florida".

It's so nice to see so many pink flamingo lovers! I, too, am a fan and since we moved, decided to decorate my bathroom in a 'pink flamingo theme'.
Thanks for sharing - I'm on my way to Joanns!!!!

I'm a flamingo lover, too!!! We have a couple in the front yard nestled among the plants as we speak.

When we were younger, we used to dress them up for celebratory events. One got a cap and gown for a graduation. Another time, one was dressed as a golfer, complete with a "wood" club, tee and golf ball, for my step-father's birthday. The flamingo also wore a Polo shirt with a tiny alligator embroidered off to one side. Mr. and Mrs. Flingo, dressed in their finest, attended many parties my mother gave for many events.

I have a picture in my computer I wish I could share with you, too. It is the bones of some kind of dinosaur. There are flamingos all over it as if they picked the bones clean. If you want it, just send me an email.

Just don't ask me about the 2' x 3' velvet Elvis that made it's way to our family parties at home or in parks in the Central Ohio area in the mid to late '80s and '90s. He now resides in my now-deceased sister's home where my brother and his wife now live and keep it safe.

      What a hoot!

Sounds like you have a fun family! My mother used to dress up a concrete goose, but we never put clothes on the pink flamingo 🙂

I love love Pink Flamingos. I used to have quite a few but over the years I am down to only 4.

You can find them at the Oriental Trading Post. Sometimes at Party City too.

I have a Pink Flamingo double flat bed sheet and some dishes that I got a Target many years ago. I was going to do a post, but it just slipped out of my mind LOL Now I should go ahead and make some pillows, napkins and a runner.

Looking forward to see what you make with your material.

      Have a great week.

Don't get too excited Mary, I'm just making pillows for the porch. Although I have the fabric setting in my dining room and am thinking maybe I need to go back and buy some more to make curtains for the dining room??? Not sure if that would be "too much".

Love that fabric Pam! I think I may have to bust out my sewing machine and run to JoAnn myself now.

Lots of fun ideas! I love the fabric...it really does capture the look of barkcloth. And the salt and pepper set is cute!

ME? I love them, but haven't had any plastic ones for awhile - I even had one who wings went around and around with the wind! My prize ones, that I always forget about, are vintage concrete ones you put on rebar for the legs. Yes, one neck was broken (before me) and mended with what else, Scotch tape! I will have to get them out again. Perhaps they wll live inside for awhile. Thanks for the pink flamingo reminder!

My son said when he bought his own house, he was putting pink flamingos in the yard. For his birthday and Christmas he usually gets something flamingo. (if not the whole party) His girlfriend bought a blow up flamingo one year. We put a Christmas wreath on it so he'd see it when he got home from work. We've done birthday parties with this theme several times. Now I'm talking about a almost 48 year old, not a little boy. One year I bought him a flamingo hat for Christmas.
Love the fabric and he might get something this year out of it. Just never know what'll come up.

Someone on facebook told me they sell flamingo suits at Kohls!!! Wouldn't that be fun!

      • Pam

        April 24, 2017 at 6:57 am

And I mean like a men's suit that has flamingos on it, not like a big furry pink outfit 🙂

I am with you 100%. My flamingos came from my uncle who bought property in Fla. in the '50's. They made their way to NJ, back to Fla. now resting in northern NJ. I love them!
